Todd has a background in art and is a self taught woodworker with some passed on knowledge from his father and grandfather. Todd said, "I always have liked to work with wood and build things. Started out with making live edge trays and evolved into making cutting boards and boxes. And now I’m doing tables chairs while still continuing what I started out with." He's always expanding his horizons and experiences. Todd grew up in the forest out in the country. When asked, "What is your favorite piece created so far?" Todd said, "I think my favorite piece I have crafted to date would be the purple poplar end table and dining table. I always have a new favorite every time I build something interesting." Todd is the owner/operator of his woodworking business and also does handyman jobs on the side. His specialty would be natural edge trays and boxes. But is expanding his abilities to try new things. Some people will never get it. But we do. The smell of fresh cut lumber, the excitement of crafting a piece from scratch instead of buying it from Pottery Barn, the sight of curly maple, or the grain of black walnut, or the rust orange POP of a Padauk board...don't worry! We speak your language! Come on in! We have 1000's of Lineal Feet of lumber here for you to pick from. We also do custom butcher blocks, Solid Hard Wood Floors, and Custom trim and millwork.
Image sourced from http://www.discoverwildlife.com/animals/mammals/10-amazing-zebra-facts Do we have some great news for you!!!! We have ZEBRA WOOD!!!! And yes, it has just as many stripes as our friend pictured above. What we've brought in for you is a quartersawn batch of 4/4 and 8/4 Zebra Wood. They are sold in 3-4' and 7' lengths. Don't worry, no zebras were harmed in the making of this post. Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a light brown or cream color with dark blackish brown streaks vaguely resembling a zebra’s stripes. Depending on whether the wood is flatsawn or quartersawn, the stripes can be either chaotic and wavy (flatsawn), or somewhat uniform (quartersawn).
Grain/Texture: Has a fairly coarse texture and open pores. Grain is usually wavy or interlocked. Endgrain: Diffuse-porous; large to very large pores in no specific arrangement, few to very few; solitary and radial multiples of 2-3; heartwood deposits (brown) occasionally present; narrow rays not visible without lens, spacing fairly close; parenchyma diffuse-in-aggregates, unilateral, vasicentric, winged, lozenge, and confluent, and banded (marginal). http://www.wood-database.com/zebrawood/ Can you see the beauty this Custom Made Walnut Butcher Block would add to your kitchen?
